Dr. Pankaj Kumar Sonar is a consultant in the department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplantation at Rabindranath International Institute for Cardiac Sciences, Mukundapur and Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Andul Road, Howrah. Dr. Sonar did his MBBS and MS from Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. He completed his fellowship in Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver transplantation from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, # in 2009. Thereafter he worked as a faculty member at the School of Digestive and Liver Diseases, SSKM Hospital till 2013. He completed his DNB in Surgical Gastroenterology from Medanta, the Medicity Hospital, Gurgaon, Delhi NCR after which he was attached as a Senior Fellow in the Department of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine at the same institute, before joining NH in September 2017. He has been awarded medals for academic proficiency throughout his medical career. He is a founder member of the Liver Transplant society of India (LTSI) and a life member of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASG) and Indian Chapter of International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA). He is actively involved in the training of DNB students. Apart from Liver Transplantation, he has a special interest in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery like chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic and periampullary malignancy, and cholangiocarcinoma.
