Dr. Somdutt Prasad — MS, FRCSEd, FRCOphth, FACS, and MFMLM — is currently a consultant ophthalmologist and retinal specialist at i4vision, a top-notch eye care clinic in Kolkata. He has worked as a consultant ophthalmologist at the Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Wirral, UK, for over a decade and has now relocated back to his home country India. On the clinical front, Dr. Prasad has been an innovator and early adopter of new surgical techniques. This expanded the referral base of the unit with patients being referred in from across the country (UK) for specialized procedures. He has also concentrated on training allied professionals to empower them to take on expanded roles. For example, he has trained optometrists to undertake follow-up assessments for macular degeneration patients. Personally, Dr. Prasad is adept at the full range of medical and surgical retinal procedures from diagnosis to treatment. For the last decade in the UK, he was doing about 300 vitrectomy surgeries a year and treating about 1000 patients a year with medical retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, venous occlusions, and miscellaneous other conditions of the retina.
