About- Vomiting blood, or hematemesis, is the backward flow of stomach contents mixed with blood, or the blood only, may appear as bright red, black or dark brown like coffee grounds colour.

 Mallory-Weiss tear

 High blood pressure in the portal vein

In infants and young children, vomiting blood may also result from:

 Birth defects

 Milk allergy
 Swallowed blood from the nose
 Swallowed object
