I graduated from Medical College Kolkata and was a recipient of the prestigious Gold Medal in Surgery. Subsequently, I completed my junior and senior residencies in Orthopaedics from RG Kar Medical College Kolkata. I passed my Master of Surgery (MS) in Orthopaedics and MRCS (Glasgow) examinations and my National Board Certification (DNB) examination in Orthopaedics. During my Orthopaedic training, I became interested in spinal surgery and did my thesis on thoracolumbar spine fractures. I undertook a one-year clinical fellowship in Complex Spinal surgery at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals where I worked with the paediatric and adult deformity team. In this busy fellowship, I also had good exposure to spinal degenerative conditions, infections, tumours and trauma. Subsequently, I did the prestigious Scottish National Spine Deformity Fellowship at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The Scottish National Spine Deformity Service dealt with all the paediatric and adult spinal deformity cases of the entire Scottish population and hence I had the opportunity to participate in a significant number of scoliosis correction surgeries during my stay in Edinburgh. After my return to Kolkata in 2018, I have been working as a full-time consultant spine surgeon at the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata and have been performing approximately 250 spine surgeries per year. My areas of interest are minimally invasive spine surgeries, surgeries of the cervical spine and scoliosis correction surgeries. I also enjoy teaching spinal and neurosurgical fellows/ residents and have been participating in research projects involving spinal pathologies.
