Chemotherapy helps to kill fast-growing cancer cells as well as radiotherapy. The side effect of chemotherapy is because of the death of fast-growing healthy cells( apart from cancer cells) like hair follicles, the lining of the mucus of the GI tract, and the respiratory tract. This type of damage can cause side effects like ulceration, vomiting, tiredness, nausea, and hair loss.
We can take different types of precautions to prevent the side effects of chemotherapy. Here are some important tips :
● Eat properly: Eating a healthy, balanced diet can help your body stay strong during chemotherapy. Focus on foods that are easy to digest and rich in nutrients, like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.
● Get proper rest: Chemotherapy can be tiring, so make sure you get plenty of rest. Listen to your body and rest when you need to.
● Keep yourself hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help flush the chemotherapy drugs out of your system and minimize side effects like nausea and vomiting.
● Consider alternative therapies: Some alternative therapies, like acupuncture or meditation, can help alleviate chemotherapy side effects. Talk to your doctor about what options may be right for you.
Control your stress: Stress can exacerbate chemotherapy side effects, so it's important to manage stress as much as possible. Consider mindfulness practices or talking to a therapist to help manage stress.
● Follow your doctor’s instructions: Your doctor will provide instructions on how to manage chemotherapy side effects. Follow their advice closely, and don't hesitate to reach out to them if you have any questions or concerns.
