There are many individuals who experience large greenish or blue veins bulging from their legs and are looking to treat varicose veins. So, based on the severity of their condition, several methods and treatments have evolved. The varicose vein has various causes which include trauma, hormones, prolonged standing, heredity, or pre-existing venous disorders. The main function of the veins is to control the blood flow from the internal organs to the extremities. The blood flow gets disrupted due to the damage of valves within the veins and valves aren’t able to function properly. Thereafter the blood within a fragment of the vein starts to build up which over time, gives rise to the bulging of veins. This is how varicose veins form. A variety of procedures are there that could be used for the removal of varicose veins. Based on how severe the patient’s condition is, a method from the following can be considered:
Sclerotherapy:
This treatment involves the vein injection with a solution that causes irritation and inflammation within the lining of the vein causing it to bulge. With the swelling of the vein’s internal lining, the blood gets thickened. This is when the body starts to break the clotted blood causing the vessel to vanish.
Vein Ligation / Stripping:
Using the ligation procedure, the damaged segment of the vein is physically removed from the lower extremities knowing that the majority of the vessel is healthy. In case of completely damaged veins, a stripping procedure is performed in which a surgical cut is made on both the top and bottom of the vein. Then the vein is completely cut, tied off, and removed.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy:
This procedure involves a surgical hook for the removal of varicose veins. On several spaces along the leg, a surgical cut is made so that the vessel that is damaged could be pulled out via small openings. So, in this method, the damaged vein is removed in many smaller parts as compared to the stripping method.
Laser Vein Removal Method:
Also called Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT), this method involves the removal of the damaged vein by using the technology of ultrasound. It involves the insertion of the laser probe into the vein to treat it completely once the damaged vein is mapped out. Using this treatment the vein is caused to cauterize to cut it off from the supply of blood, and shut down eventually.
