Vaginal Atrophy

About- Vaginal atrophy also known as atrophic vaginitis or postmenopausal atrophic vaginitis is thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal walls due decreased estrogen level and mostly occurs after menopause

Symptoms-
 Thin vaginal walls
 Short and tight vaginal canal
 Vaginal dryness
 Abnormal Vaginal discharge
 Burning sensation in the vagina 
 Spotting or vaginal bleeding after intercourse
 Painful intercourse
 Pain or burning sensation while urination
 Urinary tract infections
 Urinary incontinence 
 Genital itching
 Urinary urgency
 
Causes-
The cause of
Vaginal atrophy is a decline in estrogen. A decline in estrogen can occur due to several reasons including:
 Menopause
 Perimenopause
 Breastfeeding
 Oophorectomy
 Chemotherapy, Pelvic radiation therapy, hormonal therapy for cancer treatment

Risk Factors
 Smoking
 No vaginal births
 No sexual activity
