Transverse Myelitis

About- Transverse myelitis is a neurological disorder in which a section of the spinal cord becomes inflamed, which damages the myelin (the covering for nerve cell fibres) resulting in interrupted communication between nerve cells in the spinal cord and the rest of the body.

Symptoms-
 Sudden lower back pain
 Sensations of numbness, tingling, coldness or burning
 Weakness in the arms or legs
 Bladder and bowel problems
 
Causes-
The exact reason for
Transverse myelitis is not known. There are a number of conditions that appear to cause the disorder, including:
 Viral and other infections of the respiratory tract or the gastrointestinal tract
 Multiple sclerosis 
 Neuromyelitis Optica (Devic's disease)
 Autoimmune disorders
 Vaccinations for infectious diseases including hepatitis B, measles-mumps-rubella and diphtheria-tetanus vaccines
