Dr Pravin Krishna Vaddavalli is the Network Director - Technology and Communications, and is also the Director of The Shantilal Shanghvi Cornea Institute and the Institute of Excellence at LVPEI. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, the Cornea Society and the All India Ophthalmology Society. He is also Founder and Executive Committee Member of the Cornea Society of India and was Founding Scientific Committee Chairman of the Telangana Ophthalmology Society. Dr Vaddavalli has a keen interest in technology and its applications in medical science and hopes this blend will lead to the delivery of equitable and excellent eye and health care in the future. He has devised innovative modifications in lamellar keratoplasty, and is involved in research projects in the field of keratoconus, lamellar keratoplasty and refractive surgery. An alumnus of Bangalore Medical College, Dr Vaddavalli did his Master’s in Ophthalmology from Guntur Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, and later pursued a fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment at LVPEI, Hyderabad, subsequently joining the Institute in 2004. Eventually, he also did a one-year fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, USA. He is a recipient of several national and international awards including the Young Investigator Award for outstanding research in clinical ophthalmology by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, ‘Best Paper in Cornea’ by the All India Ophthalmological Society and three consecutive best paper awards by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals and has over 110 peer reviewed publications and over 700 national and international presentations to his credit. Dr Vaddavalli loves to read, travel, try new cuisines and play sports, but is the happiest when seeing patients in the clinic.
