Dr. Mammen Chandyis the Director of Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, and Heads the Department of Clinical Haematology and Bone marrow transplant. Dr. Chandy, an alumnus of the Christian Medical CollegeVellore, is a pioneer in the field of bone marrow transplantation in India. He was involved in setting up the first sustained bone marrow transplantation program in the country, in Christian Medical College, Vellore in 1986. To honor his vast contribution to medicine spanning over four decades, Dr. Chandy was conferred the National Civilian award- ‘Padma Shri’ and also the prestigious ‘Dr. B.C Roy Award’ by the Medical Council of India. Prof.Chandy has shown special interest in aplastic anemia, thalassemia, acute leukemia, and stem cell transplantation and published more than 170 scientific articles so far.
