Once you have successfully done your knee replacement surgery, you have completed the most difficult part of it. But you are not done yet, as there are several things you have to keep in mind after your surgery to help in your recovery.

Sleeping after knee replacement surgery in Mumbai is an important aspect of your healing. You need to take care of your posture while sleeping for at least a month for better recovery. There might be difficulty in sleeping as you have gone through replacement surgery. But with the help of your surgeon and your family, you can sleep comfortably and make the most out of your recovery. There are several positions you need to keep in mind while sleeping. The best sleeping position after knee replacement is on your back, but it won’t be the most comforting position to sleep for several reasons such as sleeping flat on your back can cause muscle tension, soreness, or pain in your lower spine. And as you will notice that your knee will not be able to straighten all the way just after surgery. Sleeping flat can allow fluid to build up in your leg overnight causing complications. You can use pillows to comfort your sleeping.

There are contoured leg elevation pillows that are available in the market that are very much helpful in sleeping after knee replacement surgery. The contours will help relax your legs and calves allowing maximum comfort in your sleeping. Sleeping slightly elevated also uses gravity to help reduce swelling in your legs. And as your legs will be less swollen you will recover faster.

After your knee replacement surgery, you would like to minimize you’re lying on the bed with your knee bent.  However, if you are doing enough movement in your daytime then it’s okay to keep a small pillow under your knee for better and more comfortable sleep.

As the day passes on after your knee replacement you may want to sleep normally as you used to before your surgery. To do this comfortably you must use a leg separator pillow to keep in between your legs while you sleep on your side.  Make sure your leg separator pillow is soft and comfortable enough to give you better sleep and also help in recovering from your surgery.

Sleeping after knee replacement surgery might be a difficult and uncomfortable process but with the help of your knee replacement surgeon’s advice and using all the necessary aids you will gradually start sleeping comfortably and like before the surgery as your body heals and as time passes by it will be normal before you even know it.
