Cancer is considered to be one of the most dangerous diseases in the world. It claims a lot of lives every year. A lot of men and women get affected by cancer in the whole world. To prevent cancer, all must follow some health guidelines. A few of them are as follows:

  • Avoid smoking or using any tobacco product. A lot of cancers that include cancers of the lung, esophagus, mouth, throat, stomach, and pancreas are caused by smoking. Try to quit smoking as soon as possible if you want to avoid cancer and other diseases.
  • Go for regular cancer screening. Cancers of the colon, breast, prostate, cervix, and skin can be detected if regular cancer screenings are done. Ask a cancer doctor at what age you should start screening and at what intervals to do them. Your chances of treatment and cure increase a lot if cancer is detected early. There are physical exams, blood tests, imaging and x-rays, and genetic tests involved in screening tests.
  • Limit your alcohol consumption. Men should limit their intake of alcohol to two drinks and women should limit their intake of alcohol to one drink per day. In comparison to those who don’t take drinks, those who consume alcohol have more chances of developing oral cancer.
  • Protect your skin from the sun. The skin’s DNA can get damaged by the ultraviolet rays of the sun. According to cancer specialists, there can also be genetic mutations leading to skin cancer. Whenever you go outdoors, apply sunscreen to your skin. You should also use a hat and sunglasses.
  • You should be physically active. It has been found that when compared with those who don’t exercise, those who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing colon and breast cancers. The activities that raise your heart rate and make you sweat are beneficial for you. Some examples are brisk walking, biking, and dancing.
  • Maintain a normal weight according to your height. Your body mass index (BMI) should not rise above 25. There can be different cancers such as gall bladder cancer, thyroid cancer, and colon cancer if there is a greater BMI.
  • For treating symptoms of menopause, women should avoid taking hormone replacement therapy. There can be an increased risk of uterine cancer if women go for this therapy.
  • To reduce your cancer risk, consider taking medicines after consulting an oncologist. For reducing cancer risk, there are several tested and effective medicines.
  • You should avoid exposure to substances that cause cancer. Cancer can cause by radiation exposure and some chemicals. Cancers of the lung, skin, thyroid, breast, and stomach are linked with ionizing radiation from gamma rays, high-energy UV rays, and x-rays.
  • You should have a plant-based diet in order to reduce the risk of several cancers including colon cancer. The intake of red meat, processed meat, chips, sugary drinks, and sweets should be restricted. There should be different non-starchy vegetables and fruits in your everyday diet.
