Urethral Stricture

About- A urethral stricture involves scarring that narrows the Urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) and restricts the flow of urine from the bladder.

Symptoms-
 Decreased urine stream and volume
 Frequent urination
 Incomplete bladder emptying
 Urinary incontinence
 Urinary tract infection
 Difficulty, straining, pain or burning sensation while urinating
 Pelvic pain
 Lower abdominal pain
 Urethral discharge
 Penile swelling and pain
 Blood in the semen
 Blood in the urine
 Dark urine
 
Causes-
 Medical procedures involving inserting an instrument into the urethra
 Catheter insertion
 Trauma or injury to the urethra, pelvis or scrotum
 Prostatitis  
 Previous prostate surgery
 Prostate cancer  
 Radiation therapy
 Hypospadias surgery (a procedure to correct an underdeveloped urethra)
 Penile implants for men
 Pelvic fractures
 Tumour in the urethra
 Repeated urinary tract infections
 Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like Gonorrhea or Chlamydia
