Keratitis (Corneal Inflammation)

About- Keratitis also known as the corneal ulcer is a painful inflammation of the cornea
 
Symptoms-
  • Blurred vision
  • Decreased vision
  • Difficulty to open the eye
  • Excess tearing
  • Eye discharge
  • Eye pain
  • Foreign body sensation in the eye
  • Photophobia
  • Red-eye
  • Swelling of the eyelids
 
Causes-
  • Bacterial infection (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus) 
  • Exposure to intense sunlight
  • Eye contact with contaminated water
  • Eye injury such as a scratch
  • Fungal infection (Aspergillus, Candida, or Fusarium)
  • A parasitic infection (Acanthamoeba)
  • Using contaminated contact lenses
  • Viral infection like the herpes simplex and herpes zoster virus infection 
  • Weak immune system
