Dr Asim Kumar Kandar is a consultant in Ophthalmology at Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals Kolkata and Apollo Gleneagles Superspeciality Eye Care Centre Gariahat. Dr Kandar graduated from NRS Medical College, Kolkata in 1999. Then he moved to prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and completed residency in Ophthalmology in 2005. Subsequently he has done fellowship exclusively in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery from same institute. After spending long three years in fellowship he came out in 2008 with expertise in the field. Before joining Apollo he has worked in Vasan Eye Care as Chief Medical Officer and Cluster Head. He has also worked as consultant in Centre for Sight, New Delhi. As per surgical skill is concerned Dr Asim is very keen in developing new surgical intervention with his scientific approach towards complicated situations related to cornea, lens and refractive surgery. In Nov, 2012 he has implanted highest customized toric IOL (Carl Zeiss 12 D) first time in India. Another case of first hyperopic toric ICL (STAAR Surgical) implantation first time in INDIA (Sept. 2013). He has recently received best surgical video award in DOS Conference held in New Delhi on 13th April, 2014. He has also received prestigious Captain Subhramaniam Award for best video and best free paper award in cornea in TNOA Conference held in Chennai Aug. 2013. He has operated on a 100 years old woman by microincisional phaco surgery in 2012. Recently same surgery has been repeated on 101 year old gentle man in Kolkata March, 2015. He is having great interest in extending the use of femtolaser for various corneal surgeries. He has performed femto-assisted suture-less anterior keratoplasty recently.
